There has been a lot of headlines on the news about dental xrays and certain types of cancer.  The research study that was mentioned in the headlines has ommited key points, how old were the test subjects and how often did they actually receive dental xrays and how old were the xray machines that were used.  Dental xrays have come a long long way in the last 20-30 years.  The use of "high speed film" and more efficient machines have significantly reduced the amounts of radtiation patients receive, and the digital xrays have cut any of that dose in half.

Our office is concerned about your oral health and your overall physical well being.  Our office policy has always been to take necessary xrays as the doctor feels is necessary.  Our fear of the "misinformation" by the media is that patients will be afraid to take diagnostic xrays and will decide to "wait until they feel pain" before they will allow us to take xrays.  With xrays, we are able to diagnose problems when they are small and way before they become painful or expensive.

As always, our office is busy working on projects for the community.  Our "Niho" has been busy visiting the Kindergarten children of Kealakehe elementry and at the Montesorri schools.  Our staff loves being a part of the children's learning experience.  I think the staff has the most fun singing and educating the children.

We had our first winner of the Sonic Care drawing!! Congratulations to A. Soares!!  The Sonic Care tooth brush is an awesome tool for your overall oral health.  We will have a drawing every month through out this year.  Each time you come in for your appointment, please fill out an entry slip and put it in the "fish bowl"!

This month is Childrens Dental Health Awareness Month.  We have been having fun with the school children - is this really work?  Honaunau Elementry and Konawaena Elementry invited us to demonstrate how to take care of their teeth.  We have a new team  member named "Niho", or sometimes is known as Mr. Toothy.  Niho has been instramental in helping the children learn about brushing and flossing and general oral health.  We learned a new song too (the tune is like row row row your boat):  "Brush Brush Brush your teeth - Brush them every day!  Left, right, up, down, brush the plaque away!"  Very catchy tune - we find ourselves singing it throught the day...

On Februay 17 we had an open house and dental screening day.  We were offering the public the opportunity to come in to our office and look around and have a dentist do a full dental screening on them.  We are very happy with how many people are interested in taking care of their health and how we were able to guide them with dental education.

March will be another fun month, with brand new ideas and events.  One of  patient rewards program will be a drawing for a Sonic Care toothbrush system - value is about $120!!  All you need to do is come to your scheduled appointment and fill out the card and put it in the "fish bowl".  We will be drawing a name at the end of the month.  Good Luck to all of the entrants!

Also for March, we will be giving away Starbucks gift cards to the wonderful patients that refer another patients to our office!  The gift cards will be mailed out when the new patient comes in for their first appointment.  This is an easy way to get your morning coffee for free!
