Karen Boteilho - Practice Administrator
Karen has been a part of West Hawaii Dental since the beginning of July in 1995. Before becoming a part of our team, she had obtained her National Board Certifications for Dental Assisting and Practice Management.

Karen has been in the dental field since 1992 and has grown to love being a part of a profession that is rewarding and continuously challenging. She believes that good oral health partners with an overall well being of health and strives to educate our patients on this principle.

Her position as Practice Administrator entails a wide variety of duties. Her main objective is to relieve Dr. Ault of administrative tasks so he can focus on patient care. Karen also meets with patients for treatment coordination and financial planning. Her door is always open to both patients and staff who have questions, needs, concerns or just a sympathetic ear. Karen has become a very dynamic person in our office and is dedicated to the success of our practice and patient care.


Diana Smith – Dental Hygienist
Diana was born and raised in New Jersey. After graduating from Middlesex County College with an associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene, she also received a B.S in biology from Kean University in New Jersey. Diana has been practicing dental hygiene for 21 years…and still enjoys her profession. Diana is a member of the American Dental Hygienist Association and is involved in the local component, the West Hawaii Dental Hygienist’s Association. Her certification in block and infiltration anesthesia is from Thomas Jefferson University in Pennsylvania and also took a course in anesthesia in Honolulu.

Diana moved to Hawaii in 1990 where she has continued her dental hygiene career. She has an incredible 14 year old daughter, Anna-Lei, born in Hawaii and is presently attending school in New Jersey. Diana enjoys golf, playing pool and corresponding via e-mail with friends and family on the mainland.

Diana began working part-time with Dr. Ault in October 2005, and then began her full time commitment in March 2006. Diana had started her oral health career at this very same office in Kealakekua 15 years ago with Dr. Wayne Galante, therefore, although Diana is the “new kid” at the office, she can boast that she was here “long before” Dr. Ault and his entire staff.

Luana DagDag – Lead Dental Assistant
Luana was born in North Carolina and moved to Hawaii when she was 2 years old. She lived in Oahu for 1 year and then moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. She graduated from Konawaena High School. Luana is married to a great man name Paul and together they have a busy son, Bryson.

She is the youngest of three children. Luana has two older brothers; one lives on Oahu and the other in Las Vegas.

Luana entered into dentistry with Dr. Ault and has been working with him since 1997. She received her training on the job and continuing education classes. She enjoys every aspect of dentistry and plans to make dentistry a career for years to come. She will be taking her National Board test in October 2006 to become a certified Dental Assistant.

Her outside interests are spending time with her husband and son at the park, beach, fishing and camping.

Ashley Sundai - Administrative/Dental Assistant
Ashley, born on the Big Island of Hawaii, and a mother to one child, has been in the dental field since 1995. We are very fortunate to have Ashley re-join our team again. She had initially joined us when our practice first began in 1995. She had expanded her dental skills while working for the State of Washington for the past 6 years with other dental practices. With her knowledge of Dental Assisting of over 10 years, she has brought to our team her expertise and talent that comes from so much dedication to her career.

Now as a Practice Administrative Assistant, she extends her talents to a number of different skills, primarily customer service, in which she excels. One of the most difficult tasks is to coordinate everyone’s busy schedules to make sure that their dental treatment is completed in a timely manner. Ashley does this with grace and seemingly with ease. Multitasking on a daily basis, including taking phone calls, updating files, referrals to specialists and insurance companies, among other tasks.

Ashley strives to ensure patients have a wonderful visit to our office.

Brandi Stacher – Dental Assistant
Brandi grew up in Santa Cruz, CA. After graduating high school, she attended Caprillo Community College for 2 years. There she studied a variety of subjects. Her favorite subjects were health and anthropology.

In January of 2002 she moved to the Big Island.

She has been working with Dr. Ault for three years and loves this line of work because she gets to help people everyday.

Brandi’s goal is to do her very best in everything she does. She would like to continue in dentistry and in October 2006 she will be taking the National Boards for Certified Dental Assisting.

In her free time she likes to go to the beach and spending time with her boyfriend and friends.

Sherrie Puaolena Keanu
Sherrie was born and raised on the Big Island. After graduating from Ka’s High School, she continued her schooling at the Hawaii Community College in Hilo and her major was nursing. After one year in college, she decided to take a break.

She just got started in dentistry. She received all of her training on the job. She enjoys working in dentistry because she likes to meet new people everyday.

On her free time she likes to spend time with her family, boyfriend, and friends. She also likes going to the beach, shopping and drag racing.
